On October 9, a bird conservation event arrived at Zhounan Meixihu Middle School in Changsha, Hunan province. Seventy-three-year-old retired photographer Yan Xiaoping brought 40 bird photographs and 16 bird-themed stamp albums, turning a school hallway into an open-air gallery of migratory birds.

Zhao Chenyuan, a staff member of the Changsha Wildlife Conservation Association, guided students through local migration routes under the theme "Getting to Know Changsha's Bird Neighbors," sharing a simple rule: do not catch, eat, disturb, or trade wild birds.

Set along the Xiang River, the city is home to Yuelu Mountain, Yanghu Lake and Meixihu Lake — rich in wetlands and woodlands that serve as a vital stopover for birds heading south each autumn. Conservation education is now reaching into Changsha's schools, communities and wetlands to keep those migration corridors safe.
