This National Day holiday, Gen Z guide Xiong Yilang led visitors from Southeast Asia on a five-day journey through Changsha and Shaoshan, Hunan, China. Along the way, he shared stories of local history, culture and everyday life — and answered their questions about China. By the end of the trip, the visitors said the experience had gone “far beyond expectations” and wanted to recommend Changsha to family and friends.
For Xiong, this was just one of more than 40 tour groups he guides each year. Working regularly with overseas visitors, he sees guiding as more than showing people around: it is a form of face-to-face cultural exchange, helping travelers discover Changsha, understand Hunan and experience Chinese culture for themselves.
