A delegation led by Tan Yong, deputy secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee, paid a visit to the United Kingdom from April 29 to May 1. Tan also serves as secretary of the CPC Working Committee of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area (Changsha High-tech Zone) and secretary of the CPC Yuelu District Committee. The delegation visited the London Stock Exchange, the China UK Business Development Centre, and the TusPark Cambridge. They also held discussions with representatives of British entrepreneurs and Chinese students studying in the UK, calling on them to enhance international exchanges and cooperation in finance, science and technology, and talents, and continuously consolidate support for building Changsha into a global R&D center city.

Tan Yong promoted Hunan Xiangjiang New Area wherever he went. He briefed that Xiangjiang New Area is the 12th state-level new area approved by the State Council and a comprehensive functional area that undertakes major national development and reform and opening up strategies. The area is of strategic significance in promoting the rise of China's central region, the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the reform and opening up of inland areas. In recent years, Xiangjiang New Area has advanced the construction of a modern industrial system led by scientific and technological innovation, and built a sound industrial foundation and innovation ecology in the fields of construction machinery, electronic information, biomedicine, and new materials. The area has fostered an international, law-based, and market-oriented business environment, and facilitated the formation of new quality productive forces and high-quality development. These efforts will create enormous opportunities for British enterprises and talents to deepen cooperation.
